It has now been two full weeks since I began working on my portfolio project, so it’s time for another update!

This week, I finished the layout of my writing swipe file and added captions to go along with my examples. With two slides dedicated solely to MG and YA branding techniques, I sent the first draft to my parents to make sure that all of my links were inserted correctly.

Though my social media pages opened with a single click, my mom hit a snag with my header font. It appeared on her screen as something vastly larger and less pretty than the one I’d picked. I went back and tried to embed my actual font but to no avail. Thankfully, my dad was able to screenshot each of my slides, and I created a second presentation using those images. Beating the System 101.

Yesterday, I sent the fixed swipe file to an advisor at Praxis, who has graciously been helping me tweak this project. She gave me a few suggestions, and this morning, I ran with them. I added a caption to one of the slides and a whole new slide with the criteria that I used to choose my examples.

From here, I’m going to screenshot my edited/new slides and insert them into the second draft of my presentation, which will soon be available on this site. Next week, I’ll show you all of the excellent examples that, unfortunately, didn’t fit in my swipe file. Until then, a quote from Lucy’s Anne of the Island to brighten your November:

“It was November–the month of crimson sunsets, parting birds, deep, sad hymns of the sea, passionate wind-songs in the pines. Anne roamed through the pineland alleys in the park and, as she said, let that great sweeping wind blow the fogs out of her soul.”
