Happy New Year, friends! My brain has been in 2018 since last September, so, in some ways, I met January 1st like an old friend. I hope that your goals for this new chapter are big, bright and beautiful and that you’re already seeing your dreams come true.
I like to make three, all-encompassing resolutions at the beginning of each new year. This way, I’m able to measure consistent progress in every area of my life throughout the entire year. With that in mind, my goals for 2018 are these:
- Be happy. Find something to smile about/be thankful for/laugh at. Find joy in the mundane. Today only comes once, and it is special.
- Keep an open mind. Learn new things in unexpected places. Meet new people. Do something crazy. Something spontaneous. Get lost.
- Be kind like it’s magic. Throw happiness around like there’s an infinite supply– because there is. Give smiles and hugs like there’s no tomorrow.
Here’s to new beginnings! I’d love to hear about your new year’s resolutions, too. Comment below or tag me on Twitter @AquinnahBree to share the 2018 love! (Also 110% welcome are thoughts on the 1995 and 2005 versions of Pride and Prejudice, Rey and Kylo in The Last Jedi and anything pertaining to Kiera Cass’s The Crown).
In other news, with the 30-Day Writing Challenge complete, I have moved on to the next chapter in Praxis: Content Consumption. This month, I’m diving headfirst into horizon-expanding, limits-stretching, worldview-changing content of my own choice.
First off, I’m reading The Last Safe Investment by Bryan Franklin and Michael Ellsberg, a Praxis favorite. I’m making liberal highlights with my fruit-scented markers and taking notes that I can’t wait to share with you later this month. Until then, spoiler alert: the last safe investment is YOURSELF.
Last but most definitely not least, I have just two more chapters to outline in my debut trilogy before I can begin my first draft of Book Three. This outline–and more specifically, my new narrator–has taken me on a wild ride. Things are about to get very real. I can hardly wait to share more.
In the meantime, let’s all find something to dwell on besides how sucky it is that we have to wait two years for Star Wars: Episode IX.
