First of all, how are there only 11 days until Halloween?! It isn’t my favorite holiday of the year, but I love It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest (Have I seen It? Bahahahahahahaha!). And peanut butter cups. Oh, and dress up. Okay, maybe I just don’t like being scared.

Now, have I done anything besides plan my holiday marathon/diet (lack thereof) this month? Thankfully, yes.

At the beginning of October, I let you lovely readers know that I have picked a role type that I believe will suit me during my six-month-long apprenticeship with Praxis. Today, I’m excited to announce that that role is in Operations.

Operations roles require extreme organization, something that I’ve been leveraging since I was two years old. Jobs like bookkeeping, payroll, event planning, coordinating shipping logistics and managing automation software all fall under this role type. I feel like Mimi from CBS’s Jericho when I say that I’m thrilled by creating structure, but it’s true. I chose Operations based upon my excitement about and experience in this area. If you’d like some more insight into my decision, feel free to check out this post.

Another of my October projects was my elevator pitch video, which you can now find on the About page. This is my second draft, angled around my organizational skills.

With all of my monthly deliverables completed, I’ve been focusing much of my attention on my PDP. I’m learning a crazy amount about marketing and branding for millennials from Micah Solomon’s Your Customer is the Star. Far from what I imagined this book would inspire, I, for the first time in my life, don’t cringe when people call me a millennial. *gasp* It’s a strange feeling.

In keeping with my decision to go for an Operations role, I’m reading The Personal MBA by Josh Kaufman as well. This book is packed with information pertaining to businesses of all kinds. More on that soon.

These books are marvelous, but I’m in value-creation zone! On Wednesday, I was cleared to start the second month of the Praxis curriculum. This month, I’ll be continuing to build my portfolio by creating a project that will signal my skills to potential business partners. I’m still in the early stages of planning, but once I’m officially off and running, I’ll be delineating my progress here each week, and the final product will be posted on this site.

Finally, too excited not to try, I entered my name in a drawing to become a beta reader for Penny Kearney’s upcoming novel, Melody, and was selected yesterday! My completed questionnaire is due by November 1st. Penny’s book is a retelling of The Little Mermaid and Cinderella, and it releases this Christmas season. I’m only one chapter in, but I’ve already fallen in love with the honesty, curiosity and straightforwardness of her protagonist.

Happy Friday to all, and to all, a happy and restful weekend!
