A small bird on the seashore

Why do I continue to write blog posts when I could be revising my manuscript?

I’ll give you a hint: It’s the same reason I continue to take on freelance projects. It’s the same reason I bake cakes with zeal. It’s the same reason I wrote this poem a few weeks ago:

all that light you keep chasing is inside your soul
the monsters don't know, should they stay, should they go
since all of this time, you've been clinging to hope
that someone would save you, like some twisted trope
you don't need a rescue, you just need some grace
you are your own savior, you are your own place

I study and bake and scribble because if I can’t finish small things, how will I ever finish a big thing? My big thing? My heart project.

Long-term work keeps us guessing. It keeps us learning–about ourselves, about each other, about the world. It keeps us humble.

Short-term work keeps us motivated. It keeps us moving in a clear direction. It keeps us creating–something, anything–every day.

This is what I like about social media. I like short-form stories and easy-to-implement ideas. I like being able to ramble about my recent read, even though I had nothing to do with bringing it to life. Now that it’s here, I’m blessed to be able to enjoy it and share that joy with you.

Some of my most recent short-term projects aren’t even on this website or in my kitchen. They’re here. And I’m so happy they are! The yoga community is transforming this ballerina-girl like nothing else, and I love it.

So, here’s to the small things. The laundry we fold and the books we finish reading and the shopping lists we conquer.

Here’s to you, reading this small thing.

I’m grateful.
