This piece was originally sent as my monthly newsletter for April 2021.
Hello friends,
Happy newsletter day. Is it the end of April already?
Nothing could have prepared me for the ups and downs of this month. That is, nothing except the trust I’ve been cultivating for the last year.
I have a feeling I already know my major takeaway of 2021, and I don’t want to spoil it, but… wow. There is something magical about letting go of our expectations.
Revisiting Forced Rest
Forced rest is a thing that happens to me when I refuse voluntary rest. My body has a way of realigning, whether or not I give it an invitation to do so. Bodies do not wait for permission to find balance. It is their way.
My April Fool’s Day gift to myself was the opportunity to overcome my worst fear. Some people are afraid of heights, some people are afraid of the dark…
I just really didn’t want to get my wisdom teeth out.
And then, one day, I did.
The sooner, the better. What a massive weight off my chest. What freedom on the other side.
So, I had them all extracted at the same time. I’m so used to being the problem child of the dental industry that the ease with which this was accomplished had me in happy tears.
And then the forced rest kicked in.
One minute, I was fine, and the next minute, I wanted to get up and do things—namely stuff my face with a chicken sandwich—which was, of course, a terrible idea.
It was a lot of smoothies for me, friends.
And then, last week, just as I was noticing a boost in my energy levels, I had an intuitive sense that I needed a chiropractic adjustment. A couple of x-rays later, that information proved to be accurate.
The Universe really sat me down this month and said, “Less is more.”
Notes from My Couch
Which is not to say I don’t have any book recommendations for you because I did promise, and I shall deliver. Forced rest gives you a lot of time to read.
- One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus – Bayview is not the place to be if you’re in the market for a low-key high school experience. Bronwyn, Addy, Nate, Cooper, and Simon all walk into detention together… but only four of them make it out alive. Now, as each of the Bayview Four faces murder charges, it’s all they can do to trust each other—and anyone else. Full of twists and turns and expertly threaded with themes of family, friendship, and romance, the One of Us Is Lying series might just be the perfect YA thriller.
- The Creature from Jekyll Island by G. Edward Griffin – Finally! This is the most important book on world affairs that I have ever read. I am in awe of the historical, present-day, and future significance of this tome. If a book about the Federal Reserve can make me cry, it is worth checking out.
Thoughts? Happinesses? Interesting things? Non-interesting things?
If I may leave you with only one thing this month, let it be this: Your body is so freaking smart! It is intuitive and sacred, and when it speaks, I hope you hear it! Let me know if this resonates. I get the sense we’re all learning and healing together.
